As we enter a new year, it’s the ideal time to reflect on areas of our lives that could use attention—like our homes. If your kitchen or bathroom needs an upgrade, let 2025 be the year you tackle those long-awaited home projects and bring your vision to life.

Whether you want to give a room a new look or remodel your entire home, the Mountainwood Homes design team has rounded up six home design trends to inspire your next project.

2025 Home Remodeling Trends

Timeless Over Trendy

Homeowners are prioritizing materials and styles that will stand the test of time rather than opting for fleeting trends. After all, predicting what will be in style 10 or 20 years from now is nearly impossible.

“Our goal is to put together a plan that is timeless, has interesting elements, and fits with the existing architecture of the home,” says Vicki Enger, designer with Mountainwood Homes.

To incorporate current trends without committing to them long-term, focus on decor, accessories, and soft furnishings—items that are easy to update and help keep your home looking fresh.

Concealed Storage Is In

Stay organized and create a calming effect by hiding clutter behind closed doors.

“Create a place for small appliances or oddities, like Stanley tumblers,” says Darby Sargent, Director of Design at Mountainwood Homes. “We’re seeing less open shelving in kitchens and more detailed storage solutions for specific functions.”

Don’t forget to hide the appliances. Cabinet panel-ready appliances blend seamlessly to allow the design to speak for itself, highlighting specific materials and details the homeowner wants attention to.

Innovative Smart Tech

Wi-Fi-enabled ovens that notify you when preheating is complete, or your meal is ready aren’t just convenient—they’re paving the way for the future of home living. Homeowners want tech solutions that simplify daily life.

From smart appliances to refrigerators with panels that display your calendar or favorite recipes, the integration of smart technology into home essentials is on the rise. Additionally, specialty features like sparkling water faucets and nugget ice machines (who doesn’t love Sonic ice?) are gaining popularity as more people experience their convenience and appeal.

Permission to Personalize

It’s your home—design it your way! Prefer a spacious shower over a bathtub? Many homeowners are swapping their primary tubs for larger, luxurious showers. Others are opting for high-tech tubs with features like ergonomic seating, compact designs, and even room for two.

“Homeowners are really deciding what they want and doing it versus always feeling they have to consider a future resale,” adds Alison Needelman, a designer with Mountainwood Homes. “As long as there is a bathtub somewhere in the home, you do not necessarily need one in the primary bathroom.”

Health and wellness remain a priority, with features like home gyms and saunas topping wish lists.

Prioritize the Primary Suite

If you need more space at home, consider adding a primary suite to create a completely customized retreat. Depending on your floor plan, adding a functional primary suite and reconfiguring the existing space for other purposes may make sense. Designing a spa-inspired bathroom, a spacious walk-in closet, and a primary bedroom is a top priority for many homeowners.

The Mountainwood Homes design/build team recently completed a whole-house remodel for a family that purchased a 1990 home that needed updating.

The home checked many boxes, but its traditional, dark look was not their vibe. They craved more natural light and opted to flip their primary bedroom and bathroom to take advantage of the backyard views.

Midcentury Modern is Here to Stay

Midcentury modern design remains a favorite, thanks to its clean lines, warm wood tones, and pops of color. This classic style adds a cozy yet stylish touch, especially popular in the Pacific Northwest.
