Four Yelp 2025 Home Design Trend Predictions With Wellness Potential
Are you a Yelp user? I’m constantly clicking into the local business finder app on my phone and so are 32 million other users, according to the company’s latest posted fast facts. With “Home & Local Services” being their top category, accounting for 20% of the site’s reviews, it’s worth noting what’s trending there. These four search sets they’re seeing as 2025 home design trend predictions have wellness design connections and the potential to improve your home and personal wellbeing.
1. 1970s Reimagined
“The conversation pit (up 369%), a hallmark of ’70s design that incorporates a sunken living area with built-in seating, is returning to living spaces as people seek cozy areas for intimate gatherings and lounging,” the trend report notes. This is a positive sign that people are gathering again, as real life social interaction reduces depression-feeding isolation.
“Mid-century furniture continues its timeless appeal, rising even further in popularity (up 319%), with curved furniture (up 124%) that lends fluidity and character to living spaces,” the report also reveals. Curved furniture can soften the impact of bumps and falls against it, (presuming it lacks hard edges, like the cocktail table my sister crashed into when we were kids), which is especially beneficial to the oldest and youngest members or visitors to a household. It can also create a softer style that welcomes users into more comfortable rooms.
2. Framed Scrapbooks As Wall Art
“Art has the power to bring any space to life, and displaying something personal and affordable can make a room that much more special. Enter a fun new trend: turning memory boxes or scrapbooks into framed art. Using custom framing services, Yelp users are creating unique shadowboxes (up 34%) to display film photos—with searches for film labs up 88% and film developing up 54%—along with travel mementos and keepsakes from special occasions. It’s a creative way to compile your cherished memories into a one-of-a-kind framed scrapbook and visual display,” Yelp reported. Creating and displaying personalized artwork can create delight for residents and visitors alike. It’s why so many parents post their kids’ finger paintings on the front of their refrigerators. This is a bit more permanent, but still with that sentimental touch.
3. Nature’s Harmony: Japandi Redux
“Japandi, a minimalist design philosophy, blends the calming simplicity of Japanese and Scandinavian elements with natural materials, clean lines, and overall room harmony. Originally highlighted in our 2022 forecast, this trend is soaring even more into 2025. Searches for Japandi design are up 105%, as a surge in culture-seeking travelers to Japan fuels an interest in the country’s home designs and sensibilities. Next year, we’re likely to see an emphasis on incorporating the natural elements intrinsic to Japandi design, including natural stone (up 51%) and fluted panels (up 459%), which help create a calming atmosphere behind a bed, entertainment center, or as a room divider. Biophilic design (up 124%) is also gaining popularity through the purposeful placement of plants throughout the home, along with growing searches for natural decor like woven window shades (up 124%) and jute rugs (up 60%),” the report comments.
Japandi’s inclusion of natural influences like jute, stone and woven textiles enhance a space’s biophilia – literally “love of nature” – quotient and help create a calming environment. This is especially helpful in rooms designed for rest, like guest bedrooms, nurseries and primary suites.
4. Discreet Smart Design
“Thanks to functional advancements in artificial intelligence and automation, savvy service pros on Yelp are helping bring the future of smart home designs into the present. Blended design elements that are versatile, discreet, and exude quiet luxury are on the rise, with searches for smart windows increasing 49%, smart lighting (up 32%), and multi-functional smart appliances (up 40%). Some of the common areas where Yelpers are searching for discreet designs as part of their renovations are in home libraries, as built-in bookshelf searches surged 124%, and searches for “invisible kitchens” with hidden storage went up 68%,” Yelp reports.
Smart window coverings can reduce sun exposure and enhance security by automating openings and closings when homeowners are away. Smart lighting can enhance sleep by shifting from cool to warm hues with the sun and our circadian rhythms. Smart appliances can help you keep food at the right temperature, cook with better results and manage laundry more efficiently.
While we benefit from all of this technology, most of us don’t want to see it! The hidden aspects create a more harmonious home while hopefully making us more comfortable, secure and resilient.
